Other Worldly Contact

Founded by Leah Selvidge, Other Worldly Contact offers both emerging and established clients and artists imaginative and thorough marketing and public relations campaigns and events. With a wide range of knowledge and expertise culled over twenty years of marketing, public relations, promotions and event management in entertainment and technology, Other Worldly Contact has represented an even broader range of clients including musicians, bands, artists, authors, technology and consumer/retail products. While our experience is broad, our efforts are focused and targeted to deliver the most effective results.

Leah began her career at the heart of technology in Silicon Valley working in product marketing and marketing communications for Global Village, Apple Computer and Media 100. After returning to Austin and a brief stint at start-up, she moved on to freelance technology PR working with nascent companies Photodex and Discgear, where she successfully garnered press coverage and led analyst tours in early growth stages. Later, she teamed with a fellow Austin publicist to represent SXSW Interactive, a mere four years after its inception, promoting the fledgling event to global IT press and delegates. Her success as a freelancer did not go unnoticed and she was quickly brought on board at global PR firm, Edelman, where she managed press campaigns for Austin-based tech start-ups around the United States.

Always a music lover and with too many friends in the music industry, Leah saw the opportunity to follow her passion and expand her public relations and marketing skills to a new arena. Starting with a small Austin independent band on the rise, she launched Other Worldly Contact and quickly built a reputation as a ‘go to’ music publicist locally and nationally for many genres of music including indie, pop, rock, Americana, jazz and hip hop. Her roster has featured local bands Silver Scooter and Trish Murphy and internationally known acts of Montreal, Mickey Hart (of the Grateful Dead), Chico Hamilton, daKah Hip Hop Orchestra, Oneida, Joel Plaskett, Tim Easton, and Nneka, among others. Her label-specific work has included Bella Union Records,
Mercury Records, Sony Independent Network, Paper Bag Records. In addition to bands and labels, Leah has represented many international trade missions and events at both SXSW and CMJ including Planet Quebec, CIMA, Sounds From Spain, SaskMusic and Alberta Music and tech giant, Real Networks.
